H1 2025 Newsletter
18 June 2025
We’ve been making steady progress at LignEasy and are pleased to share a few key updates with you. From new video content and product materials to improvements on our website and past industry events, this newsletter offers a brief look at what we’ve been working on.
Explore New Applications of LignEasolve
We’ve recently updated our website with more detailed information about our core technology and its potential applications. These updates aim to help our partners better understand the versatility of our product LignEasolve and its role in enabling sustainable innovation across industries.
To support these updates, we’re excited to share two new product brochures outlining how LignEasolve is creating value in packaging, phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resin and polyurethane (PU) foam applications.

In the packaging sector, declining recycled fibre quality and rising sustainability demands are driving change. LignEasolve offers a 100% biobased solution that improves performance in cardboard production.
Applications include e-commerce packaging, industrial boxes, and fibre moulded products. By replacing traditional sizing agents like AKD, LignEasolve opens new market opportunities and supports circular packaging solutions. For phenol-formaldehyde resins, LignEasolve brings a safer, more sustainable alternative to petroleum-based phenol. With its phenolic structure and natural alkalinity, our lignin improves thermal stability, lowers formaldehyde emissions, and cuts production costs.
These brochures provide a snapshot of how our lignin can be integrated into real-world applications—offering both environmental and commercial advantages. For detailed information, please download the full product brochure from our website: Applications – LignEasy

When used in polyurethane foams, lignin can serve as a partial replacement for polyols or as a sustainable filler. Incorporating lignin into PU formulations can enhance properties like flame resistance, dimensional stability and insulating capability, while also reducing costs and improving the sustainability of the final product. LignEasy’s Technology in Action
We’ve just released a new video highlighting the core of our innovation: LignEasy’s sulfuric acid-free lignin separation technology. Designed as a more sustainable and economically viable solution, our patented process enables efficient lignin recovery from pulp mill side streams, without the need for harsh chemicals.
In this video, Topias Anttila, our Chief Technology Officer, explains what sets our technology apart from existing methods, how it performs in continuous operation, and why it overcomes key challenges faced by current recovery solutions. His insights provide a clear picture of how LignEasy is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in lignin valorization. There is also an interview of Robert Gustavsson, Site Manager at LignoCity in Bäckhammar, where our pilot plant is currently operating. He offers valuable context on how lignin is typically used in pulp mills today, the environmental drawbacks of burning it for energy, and the broader potential of lignin as a fossil-free raw material. Robert also speaks to the importance of working close to the source for fresh feedstock and how LignoCity supports startups like LignEasy in validating emerging technologies through infrastructure, collaboration, and hands-on industry access.

LignEasy Showcased at GITEX Europe 2025
LignEasy was honored to be selected by the European Innovation Council (EIC) as a Premium Exhibitor at GITEX Europe 2025—the world’s largest tech and startup event, which held its inaugural edition in Europe this year.
As part of the EIC Pavilion, our CTO Topias Anttila and CEO Juho-Matti Karpale represented LignEasy, actively engaging with investors, innovators, and key stakeholders throughout the event.
Our founder, Eric Enqvist, joined two EIC-hosted panel discussions on the Green Impact Stage. In “Closing the Loop – Innovation for a Regenerative Planet,” he shared insights on how bio-based solutions can drive circularity across industries. In a second panel focused on the future of green technologies, he contributed to discussions on innovation pathways, market trends, and financing strategies. Both sessions brought together inspiring voices from across Europe in sustainable bio innovations.
GITEX Europe 2025 marked an important milestone for LignEasy, helping us strengthen our international presence and connect with the broader climate-tech ecosystem.

Advancing Toward Industrial Production
As we look ahead, our focus shifts toward commercializing our technology and lignin products at a larger scale and reducing the investment risk associated with launching a full-scale industrial lignin production facility. The upcoming funding round will support several critical steps in this next phase.
This includes scaling up the pilot plant to a production capacity of 4,000 tons of lignin per year, allowing us to validate market demand and begin pre-selling output from the future industrial facility. In addition, funding will cover working capital for pilot plant operations, engineering costs for full-scale plant design, and continued product development efforts. A key priority will also be the establishment of a Joint Venture with a pulp mill partner, creating a strong foundation for integration and long-term growth.
We are currently looking for forward-thinking investors to join us on this exciting and impactful journey. We warmly invite you to connect with us and explore this opportunity together.
